CTA CONGRESSLINE PHASE I ENGINEERING SERVICES

DETAILED NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT & SERVICES PROVIDED:

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) intends to undertake a major track renewal program on the Congress Line, Including renovation of Racine Station and Construction of a new substation at Morgan Street. Built in 1958, many of the infrastructure assets on the Congress Line are original dating back to the opening of the Branch and have aged beyond their useful life. The Congress line Improvement Phase 1 project represents the first of a larger four phase effort to completely reconstruct the entire Congress Line. Phase 1 improvements extend from the Dearborn south subway portal near Halstead and Congress Parkway to west end of the Illinois Medical District (IMD) Station.

Design Consulting Engineers (DCE) served as a prime engineering consultant to the city of Chicago, Bureau of Bridge and Transit and monitored all phases of constructions submittals, responded to field information, coordinated design and field construction meetings, documented construction work, recorded field measurements and quantities, reviewed contractors pay request and maintained record book.

 

DCE performed the following services:

  • Performing geotechnical investigation work along the Congress Branch right-of-way
  • Providing a geotechnical report, data and analysis required for the design of a new track bed, substation
