Lakefront trail/navy pier flyover improvement

Design Consulting Engineers (DCE) was selected by the Chicago Department of Transportation to provide
construction phase inspection and testing services on the Lakefront Trail/Navy Pier Flyover Improvement
Project. The dedicated bike and pedestrian path will extend fromthe Chicago River Bridge to JaneAddams Park
and provide a safer and scenic alternative to several congested intersections along the Lakefront Trail. The first
phase of construction takes place from Jane Addams Park to Ogden Slip. Construction is being done in three
overlapping phases, with the first phase between Jane Addams Park and Ogden Slip, the second between the slip
and the river, and the third phase improving the path over the Chicago River Bridge. The entire $60 million
project is expected to be completed in 2018.

  • Proof Roll inspection and consolidation monitoring for roadways.
  • Inspection and testing of soil, foundation, subgrade base and backfill materials.
  • Concrete inspection and testing at plant and field.
  • Review, inspection, and testing of structural steel at field.
  • Review, inspection, and testing of concrete and asphalt paving.
  • Quality control plan monitoring.
  • Preparation of final inspection and testing reports.
  • Submitting daily field inspection and laboratory testing reports to client via e-mail in PDF format.
